Well I've decided to look into having some manufactured. Basically what I need from you if you're REALLY interested in buying one (they'll be 12" tall and will cost $25 USD) is an e-mail to ghastlycomic@sympatico.ca that has the subject header "Tentacle Peep Plushie YES". Now don't send this e-mail lightly. Don't send an e-mail if you just think the plushies are a cool idea. Don't send an e-mail if you'd buy one if you only had the money. Only send an e-mail if you absolutely, positively will buy one. Basically, unless I get 250 orders prepaid the Peep Plushie project won't be happening. Before I start taking prepaid orders I need to know if there's really that much demand for the plushies. This will be a one time project limited to only 500 plushies. When I have 250 confirmations I'll post information on sending your payments. Once I have 250 prepaid orders it will be 4 months before the plushies arrive from the factory in China to my place and it will probably take me a week or two to get the last one shipped off to you. What a freakin' awesome city that is. Man... does Hamilton ever seem sucky in comparison. I was amazed at how busy the city seemed, every day around the clock. Hamilton closes up at 6pm. Downtown Hamilton on a Friday night is way less active than downtown Vancouver on a late Sunday night. Vancouver rocks. I also got to hook up with Comic Genesis admin Kisai, GGC reader <a href="http://forums.comicgenesis.com/viewtopic.php?t=73920" target="_blank">Octopus Domesticus</a> , and the excellent webcomic artist Space Coyote who draws the very popular <a href="http://www.spacecoyote.com/comics/sat/" target="_blank">Saturnalia</a>. You should see this girl draw. She draws fantastic looking artwork at the speed of light. She drew this awesome fan art for me while we were in the bar. This really killer pic of Polly (my character from my strip-in-development, Polly's Gone Home). She also gave me a fantasic water colour of Kwerki. I'll try to get the gift art gallery updated this week. It's been years since I last updated it because I've been waiting and waiting for AWC to be ready. I think if I just go and update it the nature of the universe will make it so AWC is ready a week after I do it. Anyways, the art she did was really great. Good looks and talent. I seeth with jealousy. Seeeeth! Anyways, because I didn't get back until late in the week and had much work waiting for me upon my return I didn't get to draw a strip this week. I'm afraid I'm going to Piro out on you this week gang. Just give me a moment to get all weepy... here we go... oh woe is me, I saw a dead baby robin on the sidewalk and I've been crying all week like a schoolgirl looking at her first cock, why must the universe be so bleak and cruel to one as sensitive and emo as I. Okay, enough of that shit. Anyways, just so you'll have something new to look at this week, there's a couple of inked sketches I drew on the plane. The first of Polly I drew on the plane ride there. The second is a drawing loosely inspired by a girl I saw on Robson street while I was in Vancouver. I didn't get to finish that drawing because the plane ride home was shorter than the plane ride out. I'll probably colour and finish the background later. I kind of like that derby-girl character design. I might use her in another comic. Speaking of other comics. I've gotten a lot of e-mail asking what's going on with <a href="http://www.apophenia-prime.com" target="_blank">Apophenia 357</a>. I'm still working on it. I work on pencils almost every day. I've got the entire second chapter done in pencils and a couple of pages of the third chapter penciled too. The problem is it takes a lot of work to pencil, ink, and colour that comic. The artwork is more detailed than what I draw in GGC (not that it doesn't take a long time to work on a GGC strip). The inking and colouring are particularily hard to find time for. I was able to keep up to a 3/week schedule for awhile without compromising the artwork but I just can't anymore. If Apophenia and GGC were my only obligations it would be no problem, but they're not and Apophenia is low-man on the totem pole when it comes to my priorities. The comic just doesn't have many readers. I'm not stopping the comic though. I want to see it through to the end, if for nothing else than to see what Richard Karandosh does with his lettered version of it. What I'm going to do is change the way it updates. No more 3/week, and no more sparadic updates. When I have an entire chapter finished that entire chapter will go up at once. Since 99% of the readers are GGC readers anyways I'll post update notices in the newsbox here when a new chapter of the comic is up and ready. I'll also post the notices to the blog and to my forum. So don't worry Apophenia fans (I'm talking to both of you), the comic isn't abandoned, work on it hasn't even halted. It's just going slowly. Speaking of e-mails.... having been away from the computer for a week has meant a lot of e-mails have piled up. I've already got a huge backlogue of unanswered e-mails. HUGE. I've now come to realize something about the comic that I just was in denial about for too long. My readership has gotten simply too big for me to continue to answer each and every e-mail I get. It was easy when there were only a couple of thousand people reading this strip, but the readership is probably a good chunk over 100K now. I simply can't keep up with answering the volume of e-mail that comes in. I can, however, read every e-mail that comes in, and I do. Most of the e-mail is just people telling me how much they like the comic, how much my artwork has progressed over the years, what their favorite strip is and who their favorite character is. There's not really much to answer there but I used to always like to personally respond to each e-mail and tell them how much I appreciated their praise. I do! I really, really do! You guys made me the success I am. Without the constant encouragement and appreciation of my readers I probably would have become discouraged after drawing the 100th mutated claw of a hand and given up this silly webcomic thing. But I didn't. I kept at it and over the years I've gotten better. I've still got a long way to do before I'm drawing at a pro-level, but I'm getting there and it's because of all of you. Thank you. Thank you all! Thank you very much! You have no idea how much I appreciate that so many of you enjoy my comic. Let me just say now that I'm really touched and honoured that my comic is as well enjoyed as it is. I'm so very glad that so many of you stuck it out through the "he can't draw worth shit" days to the "hey, he's starting to get pretty okay" days we're in now. You guys are the greatest. If you see me at a con don't be afraid to come up and ask for an autographed sketch. I owe you guys. A lot of the e-mail covers ground I've already answered either in newbox posts, or on <a href="http://ghastlycomic.livejournal.com/" target="_blank">the blog</a>, or on the forum. Usually if you check there you'll find your answers. In fact posting your questions to <a href="http://forums.comicgenesis.com/viewforum.php?forum=322&885" target="_blank">the Forum</a> will probably get you your answers the fastest. You'll probably get your answers from another reader too before I can answer it. Personally, I think I've got one of the best community of forumites on the internet. There's a lot of really great people posting there and it's a good place to make online friends. In any case, sometimes I'll notice I get a couple dozen e-mails asking the same question, usually about that week's strip. When this happens instead of sending out a couple dozen e-mails all saying basically the exact same thing I'll post the answer to the blog. So if you don't get an e-mail answer to your question check the blog. I will do my best to make sure I answer every business related e-mail as quickly as possible. People e-mailing to buy adspace, or wanting to invite me to be a guest at the convention, wanting to interview me, or any other business side related e-mails will be given my top priority. If you e-mail me for some business purpose and don't receive a response within 2 weeks feel free to e-mail me again. Sometimes these things get vapourized in ether of the internet. Sometimes I mess up replying. Sometimes you mispelled or forgot the word "TENTACLE" in the subject header and my spam-filter deleted your e-mail without me ever seeing it. There could be a number of reasons why I didn't see it. I'll do my best to try and answer any unique questions that haven't been asked and answered elsewhere a hundred times before. I should really update the FAQ. It hasn't been updated since 2002. Anyways, right now as far as I know there are no pressing matters waiting in my e-mail box. Many stories to tell but they'll have wait for a later day. I thought I'd just post a couple of shots of some sketches I made during the con (both of which were bought by Squidflakes). I used my digital camera to capture the images. The colour one is coloured with Crayola washable crayons. I like the way you can do watercolour washes by working them with a wet brush. Much much fun. Got to meet a fan who came all the way from Ireland. How awesome is that? I also got to meet a lot of fellow Spacers who came from all over the world.
